Connecting Your WhatsApp Account

Last updated: March 21, 2026

When you click Connect WhatsApp Account in the Yapper dashboard, a Meta popup walks you through linking your WhatsApp Business Account. This page explains what happens during and after that process.

What the connect flow does

  1. Meta opens a popup where you log in with your Facebook or Meta Business credentials.
  2. You select (or create) a WhatsApp Business Account and verify a phone number.
  3. You grant Yapper permission to manage messaging on your behalf.
  4. Yapper subscribes to receive incoming messages for your entire WhatsApp Business Account.

All numbers are imported

Even though the Meta popup only asks you to select one phone number, Yapper imports every phone number on your WhatsApp Business Account as a separate line. This is because Meta delivers incoming messages at the account level, not per phone number — there is no way to subscribe to just one number.

If you have phone numbers you don't want Yapper to manage, you'll need to move them to a different WhatsApp Business Account in Meta Business Suite before connecting.

Will I lose my WhatsApp Business app?

No. Connecting to Yapper does not disconnect your WhatsApp Business app. Both can coexist on the same phone number. You can continue using the WhatsApp Business app for manual conversations while Yapper handles automated replies.

What about my other service provider?

If you're already using another platform (like Twilio, Tidio, or a similar service), connecting Yapper does not disconnect them. Multiple services can subscribe to the same WhatsApp Business Account at the same time. Both will receive incoming messages.

However, this means both services may try to reply to the same customer. If you plan to use Yapper alongside another provider, make sure only one of them is set to auto-reply on each phone number. Otherwise your customers will receive duplicate responses.

Common scenarios

Switching from manual tokens to Connect

You set up Yapper previously by pasting a WhatsApp Access Token and App Secret. Now you want to use the Connect button instead.

Just click Connect WhatsApp Account and complete the flow. Yapper will update your lines to use the new connection method. Your existing conversations, settings, and prompt are preserved. You can remove the old manual tokens from your line settings afterward.

One WhatsApp Business Account, multiple numbers

Your business has 3 phone numbers on a single WhatsApp Business Account: a support line, a sales line, and a personal number you don't want automated.

All 3 numbers will be imported as lines when you connect. You can leave the personal number's line unconfigured (no prompt, no auto-reply) so Yapper won't respond on it, but incoming messages will still appear in the dashboard. If you want Yapper to have no access to it at all, move that number to a separate WhatsApp Business Account in Meta Business Suite before connecting.

Already using Twilio (or another provider)

You have a phone number managed by Twilio and want to try Yapper on the same number.

Both services will receive incoming messages, but both will also try to reply. Before connecting, either pause auto-replies on the other provider, or configure Yapper to work in suggest-only mode (where it drafts replies for you to approve instead of sending them automatically).

Adding a new phone number later

You connected your account with 2 numbers, and later add a 3rd number to the same WhatsApp Business Account in Meta Business Suite.

Click Sync Numbers in the Yapper dashboard to import the new number. Alternatively, the next time someone sends a message to that number, Yapper will detect it automatically and create the line for you.

Disconnecting

To stop Yapper from receiving messages on your WhatsApp Business Account, go to Meta Business Suite and remove Yapper from your WhatsApp Business Account's connected apps. This immediately stops webhook delivery to Yapper. Your conversation history and settings in Yapper are preserved and can be deleted separately from the dashboard.
